Nordic Alliance for Safer Cycling for Children

We, the national Cyclist’s Federations of Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, together with The Network of Finnish Cycling Municipalities, and the Swedish Cycling Cities hereby declare our shared commitment to a united Nordic effort to make cycling safer, more accessible and enjoyable for children across our region.

We believe that healthy habits start early. By encouraging and enabling children to cycle safely, we aim to:

  • Promote lifelong healthy lifestyles through daily physical activity.

  • Improve focus and academic performance by starting the day with movement.

  • Enhance the school environment by reducing traffic congestion and pollution.

  • Foster independence and self-esteem in children through active transportation.

  • Make everyday transportation fun and empowering.

The Alliance will pursue the following objectives:

  • Advocate for child-friendly cycling infrastructure.

  • Support education and awareness campaigns for children, parents, and school staff.

  • Share data, research, and best practices across the Nordic region.

  • Raise public awareness of the benefits of cycling for children.

Together, we aim to create a future in which every child can cycle safely, confidently, and joyfully – while laying the foundation for a more sustainable world and improved public health through active transportation. We advocate for a future in which the bicycle is not merely a mode of transport, but a catalyst for change.
